What is the Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Evidence Center?

Established in 2022, the Evidence Center was created to fill a critical gap in the global agri-food landscape. While there is no shortage of "advice" regarding what we eat and how we produce food, the Center provides something far more valuable: independence and transparency.

The Center is uniquely equipped with the resources and expertise to provide global policymakers with thorough reviews of scientific evidence. Their work focuses on the intersection of three vital pillars:

  1. Human Health: How dietary patterns and food systems impact wellness and disease.
  2. The Environment: The footprint of agricultural practices on our planet.
  3. The Economy: The financial implications of food systems and nutrition policies.

Their team

The success of the Evidence Center is driven by a diverse and highly skilled team of scientists, researchers, and methodology experts. The team specializes in systematic review protocols, data analysis, and evidence synthesis specifically tailored to the complexities of the agri-food system. By bringing together experts from fields as varied as clinical nutrition, environmental science, and agricultural economics, the Center is able to tackle global challenges from a holistic perspective. Their collaborative approach ensures that every review produced meets the highest standards of scientific integrity and provides a comprehensive view of how food policy impacts our world.

Why This Partnership Matters

Cochrane is known worldwide as the "gold standard" for systematic reviews in healthcare. By bringing the Texas A&M Evidence Center into the Cochrane US Network, we are applying that same "gold standard" rigor to the fields of agriculture and nutrition.

This collaboration ensures that when policymakers and the public look for answers on how our food systems affect our lives, they are receiving information that has been vetted through the most stringent methodological processes available.

Learn More and Get Involved

We are excited about the future of this partnership and the vital research that will emerge from it. The Evidence Center’s mission to provide independent evidence is a perfect match for Cochrane’s vision of a world of improved health where decisions about health and care are informed by high-quality, relevant, and up-to-date synthesized research evidence.
